Not everyone wants a traditional houseboat. Some people prefer to buy an old fishing boat and convert it into a home. Fishing boats tend to be sturdier and better built for rough conditions than houseboats, which can make them more practical for coastal mooring.
The downside is they weren’t designed as living spaces. You’ll need to gut the interior and rebuild it with sleeping quarters, a galley, and a bathroom. This takes time and money, and you need to know what you’re doing or pay someone who does.
Mooring can be cheaper for fishing boats in some marinas though, as they’re often classified differently to houseboats. Just check the regulations before you buy and start converting, as some marinas won’t allow liveaboards at all.
