Using a powerboat is an exhilarating experience. However, it is not always the most economic or environmentally friendly or pursuits due to the large fuel bills you can run up along the way. Once you start to push up the power and the boat begins to lift out of the water, fuel consumption is only going to go up. Here are some tips for saving that precious fuel:
- Reduce the load. The less you carry, the less fuel you will use. Try to avoid carrying a full fuel tank on board – this will add a lot of excess weight.
- Balance the load. Ask people to sit in positions so that the boat is well balanced and will not porpoise.
- Don’t accelerate too hard. Do it gradually and build up speed over time.
- Clean the hull. Make sure you aren’t dragging any rubbish along with you.
- Have your boat’s engine services to make sure it is performing properly.
